Some people believe it’s the hardest position to play in all of sports.  I believe it ranks up there with an ace pitcher in baseball and a quarterback in football.  The physical rigors of the job are certainly more demanding than either of those positions.  All three require intestinal fortitude but the major factor separating goalies from all other sports figures is their iron psyches.  Jacques Plante once quipped, “How would you like a job where, every time you make a mistake, a big red light goes on and 18,000 people boo?” (more…)

Stumble! might be the greatest feature to ever grace Mozilla Firefox.

Have you seen the Senators-Sabres fight from last night? Ray Emery is crazy. I wouldn’t want to be an opposing goalie when he is in net. Checkout the fight and notice the grin on Emery’s face. Mind you, this was Emery’s first game back from a suspension…for hitting a player in the face with his goal stick. Crazy.

The Frigid Hotstove

They can’t all be jokes and humor.  Occasionally I’m expected to actually talk about sports on my sports blog.


I wanted to write an article about the pending NHL deadline but ESPN and Sports Illustrated both published similar articles this week.  Well, similar in that they dealt with the pending NHL trade deadline but I think “experts” are still missing the mark.  The “new” NHL is a completely different beast than in the past.  GMs are still getting a feel for the game and how it will change come playoff time.  Factor in the salary cap and you’ve got thirty teams looking for a new blueprint to success.
